Itinerary

SAMPLE 4 DAY ITINERARY - 1/2/3 DAY ITINERARIES ALSO AVAILABLE

Day 1: A short flight to one of the regional Italian airports starts your journey into the fabulous world of Prosecco. You will be met at the airport by our English speaking representative who will guide you throughout your trip.

Our first stop is to visit the Palladian style villa; Villa Maser, a UNESCO World Heritage site. After a brief tasting lunch we drive to our base in Conegliano within the DOCG region. (DOCG is the acronym for Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita - a warranty mark used in Italy to confirm the quality of the wines being drunk). The very first winemakers school in Italy was set up in 1876 in Conegliano, with its frescoed archways, remains of a 10th century castle and its proximity to the DOCG area it is the perfect place to be based.

We visit a family winery where one of the sons of the founding member will demonstrate the Prosecco making process from grape to bottle. During the visit we will sample some fabulous Prosecco Superiore, the local Verdiso wine and the sweet desert wine, Passito made from dried prosecco grapes.

Not all Proseccos are the same and our second winery visit will demonstrate the versatility of the Prosecco producers who collaborate with smaller grape producers to produce Prosecco Superiore through their own distinctive method.

The day concludes with an option to take an early evening meal in downtown Conegliano choosing from one of the many superlative restaurants in the locale. (At own cost)

Day 2: After breakfast, the day commences with a visit to the Castle of Conegliano. The bell tower of the castle dates from the 10th century and hosts a museum encompassing 5 levels and many mediaeval artefacts excavated from the local area. It is possible to climb to the battlements and appreciate the fabulous local vistas or if the mood takes you - enjoy a coffee in the castle grounds.

Our transport then awaits for a drive along the Prosecco Road to Valdobbiadene, the heart of Prosecco country where we dine at a boutique, award winning winery, sampling their award winning Prosecco Superiore as we feast on local produce.

After a light lunch we journey on to another fabulous Valdobbiadene winery, overlooking the vicinity of San Stefano and the hill of Cartizze where we taste an extensive range of the finest Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore.

There is also an opportunity to visit the quirky one-off ‘Osteria Senz Oste’ or ‘bar without a host’ where Prosecco can be bought from a vending machine and savoured outside, at our own pace, whilst marvelling at the panoramic views overlooking the surrounding area.

Day 3: The morning is free to explore Conegliano and Via XX Settembre with its marvellous frescos and archways before being transported for a final time along the Strada del Prosecco to the vineyards of Valdobbiadene.

After walking through the vineyard we relax with a simple Italian lunch of breads, hams and cheeses, accompanied by the obligatory tasting of finest Prosecco Superiore.

After lunch we visit the 17th Century working waterwheel of Molinetto della Croda and the church of San Pietro di Feletto en route to our final winery, where we sample Prosecco produced through the traditional or “champagne” method in contrast to our other tastings, before our final evening in Conegliano.

Day 4: After an early breakfast we drive to Venice Marco Polo Airport for our return flight.
